In the shadow of the Boechout windmill near Antwerp lies the Belgian vineyard Oud Conynsbergh. Its Auxerrois, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Muscat and sparkling wines showcase a unique terroir and rich heritage.
In 2011, a group of eight friends decided to embark on an exciting journey by planting a vineyard in Boechout. The first vines were planted in April 2014. Although their project was initially met with scepticism, Wijndomein Oud Conynsbergh has proven that excellent wines can indeed be produced in the province of Antwerp.
The creation of Wijndomein Oud Conynsbergh allowed the friends to realise their dream. What began as an ambitious idea quickly took shape as they conducted thorough research and overcame initial doubts. They committed themselves to learning the art of winemaking and created a brand new vineyard.
They threw themselves into the cultivation of the vineyard with the aim of reviving the winemaking tradition of Boechout and Vremde, where vines were already cultivated in the 16th century.
A passionate team of dozens of volunteers join them in this endeavour, helping with vineyard maintenance, harvesting and organising events. Today they are proud to run the only certified organic vineyard of this size in Flanders.
