  • Please note the following. Dasha and Diede are currently experiencing a technical issue with their Riso-printer. The part that is responsible for making the stencil gives a blank vertical stripe in all designs (see the last picture). They are working on a plan to invest in a new printer, but this will take some time. You are still able to do the workshop, but be aware of this issue. We'd appreciate it very much if you do not let this stop you to do the workshop and still support Dasha and Diede to help fund the purchase of a new printer! 😊

Dasha and Diede of Studio Vlinderboom are excited to invite you to this introductory workshop.

In this workshop, Dasha and/or Diede will guide you through the process of making your own two-colour Risograph prints. You'll leave with 10 copies of your own design and the opportunity to share and collaborate with other participants.

The workshop begins with an introduction to the theory of Risography, followed by a demonstration of some examples. You'll then move on to drawing the first layer of your design using a variety of drawing tools including ink pens, pencils and crayons. Once the first layer is complete, you'll print it using Studio Vlinderboom's Riso-printer.

Next, you'll make the second layer, possibly using a light box for precise alignment. After the second layer has been printed, there will be opportunities to print layers from different participants on top of each other, encouraging collaborative artwork.

The workshop concludes with a small exhibition where you can review and discuss your work with the group. Finally, you'll have the opportunity to exchange prints with others, so you can take home a variety of creations.

Throughout the workshop you'll gain practical skills in basic Risography techniques, creating layered designs and using texture and opacity to achieve unique effects. The workshop will take place in the inspiring environment of Baggerbeest, a cultural hotspot in Zeebrugge, providing the perfect backdrop for creativity.

Participants don't need to bring anything, but if you have favourite drawing materials, feel free to bring them along.

We hope to see you soon!

    Risographie studio

Meet Dasha and Diede, the driving forces behind Risoprinting studio Studio Vlinderboom. Dasha and Diede met in art school, where they were introduced to Risography printing and immediately drawn to its vibrant colours and unique texture. This led then to pursue the craft further.

Studio Vlinderboom's playful approach to Risography printmaking focuses on collaboration and storytelling. Dasha and Diede use the technique to create individual prints as well as publications and zines.

The studio uses a machine from the 90s that left unused by Dasha and Diede's art school. With the help of their former teachers they refurbished and restored it. Riso was a popular printing technique from the 80s to the early 2000s, but the craft was getting lost due to the transition to more effective methods. However, artists like Dasha and Diede, who picked up riso for its defining artisanal features, keep the craft and community alive.

Studio Vlinderboom has participated in well-known print markets such as Wobby Wonderland, Les VoiZines in Ghent and the NDSM print market. They co-created a collective zine with ZIJN printmakers and their artworks are available in stores across Europe, including Boekie Woekie in Amsterdam. In 2022 the studio was runner-up for the Ghent Small Press Big Award.

Dasha and DIede organise workshops to share their skills and passion. Their goal is to encourage others to enjoy making prints and to help grow the Risography community in Amsterdam.
