Join Alex in his bright studio to discover the craft of woodcut printing. You are welcomed with a cup of tea or coffee as you settle in and the workshop begins with a brief overview of the craft and Alex's background.
You will be using Japanese Shina plywood to create your prints, known for it's reliability and fine texture in mark making and printmaking.
Learn about the ancient process through past and contemporary artists who use woodcut printing techniques and gain inspiration from their work.
Dive into designing and carving your own pattern and images, experimenting with traditional tools and techniques under Alex's guidance.
You will have the opportunity to practice on news print beforehand, getting used to applying the ink and paper.
Once you are ready, it's time to create your greetings cards and prints working on white and coloured cards, plus the option to work on Japanese Hosho paper. Each print carries subtle differences, making every piece truly individual.
At the end of the session, you'll take home your finished prints, along with newfound skills to continue exploring this timeless craft.
