  • Take part in a woodworking workshop led by Joel. This session is a great opportunity to learn the basics of woodworking while creating a personal item.

The workshop starts with an introduction to Yes Make, a sustainable craft space. You'll also meet Gaia, who helps run the workshops and makes sure everything runs smoothly.

Joel will then explain the materials you'll be working with, specifically reclaimed mahogany from Smithfield Market. The origin of the wood used in each workshop is always shared, giving you a deeper appreciation of the materials.

After the introductions, you'll learn how to use the tools for the session. Joel will guide you through each one, showing you how to use them safely and effectively.

With the basics covered, it's time to start making your chopsticks. You'll make four sets, with Joel on hand to offer advice and demonstrate techniques for shaping and refining your pieces.

Finally, you'll focus on finishing your chopsticks. Joel will show you how to sand and polish them for a smooth finish.

In the end, you'll have new skills and a set of handmade chopsticks to take home!

    Rencontrez Yes Make

    Woodworker

Joel is a skilled woodworker with over 20 years' experience, continuing a family tradition that spans four generations. He founded Yes Make, an initiative that transforms London's fallen trees - up to 10,000 a year - into practical and meaningful items for the community.

They mill their own wood from locally sourced fallen trees, ensuring that each project is sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Located in a community garden, Yes Make provides a welcoming space where participants can learn essential woodworking techniques, work with high quality reclaimed wood and contribute to projects that give back to the community. Joel and his team are committed to making woodworking accessible, sustainable and impactful.
